Proto-vocabulary Kit (My Proto-Vocabulary Book & My Verb Book)

‘Teaching’ children, who are delayed in learning to speak often end up with well-meaning therapists/teachers and caregivers teaching the child words from children’s’ books that list colours, vegetables, animals etc.

However, these are not the words that a child learns or needs to learn at the very beginning. The proto vocabulary helps caregivers choose vocabulary that is more appropriate and responds to the needs of the child from among hundreds of words that are among the early vocabularies of children across the world. It also helps parents recognize and use the crude or proto-form of the word that the child begins with such as ‘mumum’ for ‘food’ and gradually shape it to the actual word. The picture format also permits its use as an alternate means of communication for the nonverbal child.
